Chicken Wings – How to Know if You’ve Made Enough

If you are cooking chicken wings for yourself or your family, you probably have a pretty good idea of how many you need to prepare. But what if you are making wings for a party?

How many chicken wings should you make for the party?

“How many chicken wings should I make for my party?”

If it is YOUR party, my easy “rule of thumb” is make 3 wings per person.

This usually works out pretty well as some people will eat 8 or 10 and some (crazy) people will not eat any.

This is a great rule if you are hosting the party, because you know how may people you have invited. Naturally, you can adjust this amount based on how well you know your friends wing-appetites. Also consider whether the wings are the only food you are serving or if there will be many other dishes and if your have asked your guests to bring dishes.

But what if you are invited to a party and asked to bring a dish. Now how many wings?

You often do not know exactly how many people will be at a party or how well they will like your new recipe.

That’s where my one simple best rule comes in — and it ALWAYS works

The One Simple Best Rule for the Number of Chicken Wings to Take to a Party —

Fill up a Large Platter.

That’s it. Simple.

Consider these 2 things:

  1. If it’s like most parties I go to, there will be WAY too much food anyway. So when your wings run out there will still be more to eat.
  2. Your wings will ALWAYS run out. Seriously. Always. So it really doesn’t matter how many your take (as long as it looks like a lot, of course.  “A large platter.”) No matter how many you take, expect them all to be eaten. Wings taste good hot or cold and will often continue to disappear long after the other dishes are forgotten. I have NEVER brought home leftover wings. Seriously. Never.

If you bring a full platter, it will look great next to the Taco Dip and Cheese Balls. All of them will be eaten and you will be a hit. Especially if you use one of my recipes. 😉

See? Simple.

By the Way — Be sure to take an appropriate dipping sauce for the wings. And most large platters hold 20 to 30 whole wings or 40 to 60 divided winglets.
